FAQs:

There are 3 Beginner level stages:

  1. Absolute beginner to learn piece movement
  2. Lower beginner to be able to play without making any illegal moves
  3. Upper beginner is the stage when players can recognize and play using patterns and can see threats and attacks.

All of these come under beginner curriculum that leads to a playing strength of 1100 on ChessKid. About 60 classes are needed to complete all of the above

We understand this legitimate concern. Our coaches are exactly trained to address this. Although it’s the nature of children to be vocal when they know something, we ensure every child is given due attention. It also helps boost the confidence for a child when they get appreciation among other children and over time they open up and talk.

We offer one free trial class to see if our format works for you, whether your child enjoys the class and they can understand the teaching. With just one class, not much can be learnt but children often need at least a few classes to pickup an interest.

Sticking consistently to a class schedule and encouraging the child to experiment on their own after the class, helps them to pick up interest. If you think, the course has value and want your child to learn, all they need is right environment and encouragement. So go ahead and enroll, if it is not working out, you can cancel anytime.

Scholastic chess deals with putting competence ahead of pure entertainment playing. Once kids get competence, they become passionate. It is this passion that takes them towards competitive playing or simply enable them take the skill to other walks of life enduring them to succeed because of their superior mental agility! Cognitive thinking & contextual memory are two important mental abilities.

For competitive level playing at the district level games, the suggesting rating requirement on ChessKid.com is 1600+. This can be achieved by learning & playing 6-8 hours a week, and something our academy strives to deliver.

Most kids who learn at home from friends and relatives remain at just the entertainment level of playing chess.

  • Absolute Beginner for a few classes with 2-3 kids
  • Lower & Upper Beginner classes 4-6 kids.
  • Intermediate & Advanced classes 5-8 kids.

Learning the basics of the game could be taught relatively quickly. However, becoming a consistent winner can take years of training and practice. Our teaching method allows your child to practice the concepts and strategies of chess and put them into immediate use while playing against their peers.

No, we do not and that is for a reason, as below:

Reason: One-on-one is not an interesting format for kids to learn chess. If the idea of chess is to help kids improve their cognitive thinking, it needs to be dealt differently. Not like a school subject learning that is often along the lines of non-cognitive towards marks scoring!

Chess is both entertaining & complicated brain gym for kids. They exercise their brains and learn better when there are other kids around in a fun way.

Yes, we do conduct online chess tournaments for students at Mind Mentorz Club only.

  1. We conduct practice tournaments within the classroom format to help students understand the need for competitive level playing. This is from Upper Beginner level learning.
  1. Daily automated 1 hour chess tournament from 7 to 8 pm on ChessKid platform. This runs unattended and offers kids to have a playground to practice every single day.

Twice a month, we have prized tournament with a small fee of Rs. 354/-. Winners are rewarded with cash prize that could be used to pay for coaching fee and ChessKid subscription renewals and Certificates.

Children should engage with certain types of technology that can help them develop. Online scholastic chess is one such!

Online chess provides kids opportunities to express themselves, such as:

– INTERACTIONS – Brings social interactions between students, and between students and tutors / coaches, enabling cognitive conflict and cooperation

– EXPLORATION – Analysis of chess games is direct, hands-on investigation which facilitates higher order thinking

Online chess is not like other internet games that are designed only for entertainment.
