Chess is like knowledge. You can’t grasp it all. You don’t find any grandmaster declaring that they know all about chess. Your opponent might surprise you with a new opening or a strategic move that you didn’t know about. So, you need to be open to learning whenever there is an opportunity. What makes you a better player is your ability to comprehend your own game. Scrutinize, analyse and then practise. Everyone does that after a tournament or even a game. If you don’t start doing it to get better results. But how do you analyse your game? This blog will walk you through the complete process of Analysing your game. Let’s get started.
Pen down the time you spend over a game and your moves- You need to churn your brain cells. Analyse how much time you spent on each move and how that affects the game. There might be times when you took a little more time to act than others. Study those positions and analyse what made you do so in the first place? Working on your timing to move ratio makes you aware of the certain aspects that you need to work on.
Code it while you play- As you progress in the game, keeping jotting down structure codes that will help you analyse your position better. At what moment did you miss a tactic of your opponent? When did you choose to modify your strategy and how did it work out? These are the questions that you can answer better, once you start to write codes for your gameplay, during the game.
Work it up quick- As soon as you are done with your game, write down your train of thoughts that you had at the middle of the game. So, you don’t forget. Your thoughts at that moment and your analysis can be very different. Thus, you have to trace how your mind works during a game and after it is over? Don’t miss a thing. Maybe you challenged yourself at one point and that end result was great. Mark them as your strong points. Take credits for the best and work on your mistakes.
What did you learn- As popularly said, you constantly learn something from others. You should imbibe the same spirit. Don’t let it pass by. Maybe it would help you in the next game and save you a move. Write down all of those that you remember you saw differently. It is a process of learning. Your opponent’s move would give you an idea to strategize better, for the next time.
Note down the pathway- The pathway you follow is crucial. Divide and rule. That is the matra. Classify your gameplay into three major sections. Opening game, Middle Game and End Game. Look what you were best at and where you need a little push? If you opened strong and digressed in the middle. You need to work through your middle game. Only when you identity your strong points, you can work up the rest.
These tactics are not just used by beginners but Grandmasters too. Every player needs to Analyse their game. Not for sympathising over it but to learn from your mistakes. Remember there is always a better player than you and it is tough to make him/her lose, however you can always try to do it differently from the others.
